Taipei Urban Regeneration

Many mid- to low-rise apartment buildings constructed since the 1960s in Taipei are charmingly characteristic of the city, yet many have deteriorated into poor living conditions due to aging. In recent years, there has been a trend of replacing these with large-scale apartment complexes. However, this approach may not be suitable for a society facing future population decline. In this context, we proposed a plan to renovate and reuse old apartment buildings, aiming to create better living environments that retain the essence of Taipei. Simultaneously, under the sponsorship of the Chinese Institute of Urban Design, numerous architects have made proposals for existing apartment buildings. These works have been showcased through exhibitions and lectures and subsequently compiled into the book "Heterogeneous Taipei" (authored by Jr.Gang Chi, published by Garden City Publishers).
